Let’s say you own a large blacklight attraction. You spent all the time, money, and effort you could muster to make it the best themed blacklight attraction you could possibly create. You thought of every detail, right down to having your employees wear custom-embroidered hats proudly featuring the logo of your attraction. You have created a glowing world of fun, and every detail is perfect… Until one of your employees wanders into a blacklight “dead zone”. No matter how hard you try to cover every inch of your blacklight attraction in brilliant UV light, there are always areas that are either dark, or are lit with regular lighting (blacklight dead zones). As soon as your employee steps out of UV light, the glow effect is gone. Your once-glowing logo is now a dark blob. Wouldn’t it be great if the UV light could magically follow your employee around, and keep that logo brightly glowing for all to see? Enter the Glowlight Visor.
Why Didn’t I Think Of That?!
Every once in a while we all run across a product or service that is so brilliant (yet so simple) that we immediately think “Why didn’t I think of that?!”. I definitely experienced this thought in abundance when I ran across the Glowlight Visor. In short, the Glowlight Visor is a visor (topless hat) featuring a custom UV reactive logo on the front, but the true genius (in my opinion) is that the brim of the visor contains UV LEDs that shine directly onto the logo! I realize the idea of LEDs being integrated into clothing isn’t new. Our friends in the EDM culture have been wearing LEDs for many years, however this is the first time I’ve run across blacklight reactive clothing that supplies it’s own UV light.
Glowlight Visor Details
Glowlight Visor is a product of Chestnut Identity Apparel, Inc., a uniform and embroidery company in Brookdale, CA. Their website says they’ve been “supplying the amusement industry for over 40 years”. The product description tells us that the visor contains replaceable batteries, though the exact battery type is not given. There is an “On/Off” switch on the side, so the batteries can be conserved while the wearer is standing in other good sources of UV light. Because this is a custom item (featuring custom embroidered UV reactive logos), the price is listed as “Call for pricing”. I imagine your price probably depends upon the complexity of your logo, and the quantity of Glowlight Visors you purchase. Now I realize I’m such a fan of the idea behind this product that I might sound a bit like a commercial at this point, but part of the purpose of the Blacklight Amusement Blog is to keep blacklight attraction owners aware of the latest and greatest UV products. In my mind a custom-logo visor that supplies it’s own blacklight fits that description to a T. I’m hoping at some point we can obtain a Glowlight Visor, so we can do a full product review.
I know the idea of LED clothing is not new, but I really like the way the LEDs are used in this product to light a UV reactive logo. It’s a simple solution to the larger problem (all blacklight attractions have) of what happens to our UV reactive uniforms and costumes when the wearer steps out of the UV light. We are becoming a society of wearable technology, and the Glowlight Visor is a great example of simple wearable technology being adapted to fit the needs of the blacklight amusement industry.
